Hemorrhoids - Curing Common Problems of Rectum and Anus

Author: Nilutpal Gogoi

Hemorrhoids are common problems of the rectum and the anus. If detected early, Hemorrhoids can be cured with easily available medications with many prepared from herbs. Such herbal medications may be a bit slow in reacting compared to the other medicines prepared from chemicals but the best thing about these herbal medicines is that they leave no side effects. Hemorrhoids cause unpleasant, burning and painful sensations in the rectum and the anus areas often accompanied by bleeding. Hemorrhoids occur due to veins that get swollen in those portions. The bleeding takes place as the blood vessels get torn resulting from excessive pressure exerted on the bowels, say during the bowel movement process.

The elderly persons generally get Hemorrhoids. However, a stressful life coupled with tension and worries can also lead to conditions like sleeplessness or fatigue or constipation which can then lead to Hemorrhoids.

Such bleeding can also be a sign of colon polyps or what is commonly called colon cancer. Hence to be on the safer side it is always advisable to check out if there are stains of blood on the seat prior to flushing the toilet. For curing hemorrhoid pruritus and irritation, one can go for baths (warm sitz) daily for at least 20 minutes. Such sitz baths as well as bowls that are portable can be procured from any chemists shop. Sitz baths provide relief by relaxing the sphincter especially in the internal anal portion. The hemorrhoid itching arising from soilage (fecal) can be taken care of by supplementing the diet with fibery food items that soften their bulking and hard nature. Analgesics can also provide relief from hemorrhoid pains. Moreover, for patients suffering from such chronic hemorrhoid symptoms should seek the doctors advices. They can be provided the alternative means of surgery, laser coagulation, cryotherapy , sclerotherapy, or ligation using the rubber band.

One should always be extra cautious during such stages when one may be suffering from diarrhea, as excessive pressure on the bowel or constant sitting may aggravate the hemorrhoid state. Be also careful during coughing especially if it is severe or chronic -- pregnancy and childbirth. Dont exert pressure on the abdomen and the lower rear portion of the body while lifting heavy weights.

To reduce hemorrhoid bleeding, one can increase the consumption of fibery food items. There are lots of ready-made preparations available in the market that readily supplement the body with the fibery elements and also augment the capacity of the body to absorb fibery substances. One such commercial product is psyllium which as well as methylcellulose makes the stools softer and turns them into bulks so that they can be passed out through the rectum via the anus.
