Try IPE Decking Tiles ? Give Your Deck A Facelift

Author: Peter Crump

Ipe decking tiles are interlocking tiles that you can use to create the deck of your dreams. This type of decking is very popular with homeowners in California. These are a quick and easy way to cover any outdoor surface. When you place the tiles made from Ipe wood on your deck, you can create an interlocking design of a continuous surface. This style of Ipe decking also has the flexibility of being taken up whenever you want.

The most advanced design of decking tiles are those from Ipe. Ipe decking tiles are made with plastic as the most important component. This feature allows the water to drain away underneath the deck and the interlocking tiles have a molded tab on each side that each decking tile will fit into each other. There are two different styles of Ipe wood decking tiles. When it comes to Ipe decking, California residents often choose the Colorado style laid in a straight pattern to emulate wood decking or you might prefer to lay the decking in a brick pattern.

The Sierra style of Ipe decking tiles is best suited for centrepieces or for borders. This style can also be used where you might need to use an extra decorative feature. You can lay these in either direction. Along with the styles of Ipe wood decking, you can also have straight reducers so that you have a smooth outer edge along your decking. For corners, you can get corner reducers that clip to the outside edge so that your corner has a professional finish. It doesnt matter where you live because you wont have to worry about the effects of the weather with Ipe decking. California homeowners really like the UV protection that they get with the polypropylene base on this wood decking. It can withstand temperatures ranging from -20C to +60C.

When installing Ipe decking, the installation kit includes corrosion resistant screws. These will hold the Ipe wood decking slats onto the wood frame if you choose not to use decking tiles and just use the decking planks that you can also get from Ipe. Both the decking tiles and the planks contain a protective coating of preservative oil that does help to protect the wood against fading in the bright sunlight.

Each Ipe decking tile measures 12 inches by 12 inches. Installing Ipe wood decking is a project that you can easily finish in a few hours once you have the wooden frame in place. According to the California residents who would not trade their Ipe deck for anything else, this is one of the best ideas for low maintenance decking. All you have to do is wash it down with the hose on a regular basis. You never have to paint or stain it and because it is not really wood, you will never have a problem with rot when you use Ipe decking.
